Join us for a tweet opportunity to get up close with our feathered friends! Bird Bander Ross Wood will be studying wild bird populations at Mountsberg Conservation Area on Saturday, September 30th from 9am until 12pm.
Learn how birds are safely captured using mist nets, help gather and record specific information about each bird, and take part in their release back to the wild. The information gathered through this important program helps scientists understand bird migration, population size, and behaviour as well as helping them to work to preserve endangered species. Approximately 6,000 banders are active in Canada and the U.S. and over a million bird band records are reported annually! Come out and learn more about this international project and be a part of the effort to preserve bird health.
For more bird fun take in on one of the park’s Bird of Prey shows (offered at 12pm and 2pm) or hike to the Mountsberg reservoir to watch for migrating waterfowl. The Wildlife Walkway offers a gentle stroll to a viewing platform of the Mountsberg reservoir, a refuge for many species of waterfowl such as ducks, geese, swans, and cormorants as well wading birds such as herons and bitterns. Mountsberg is a bird lover’s paradise!
September 30, 2017 – October 01, 2017
